Brand Letter of Intent

    To all sheep enthusiasts,

    This channel aims to create an exchange on animal welfare in the sheep industry in order to support each other in tackling welfare issues, especially mulesing. NGOs such as FOUR PAWS, RSPCA and HSI will share within this channel relevant animal welfare research as well as insights we get from our work with brands and the public.

    To start we would like to share with you that a number of international clothing brands are interested in working together with mulesing-free supply chains and wool growers. Over 30 global brands have signed the ‘Brand letter of Intent’. These brands either already source certified mulesing-free wool or intend to be fully certified mulesed-free by 2030. This is in line with the encouraging timeline the AWI has set in their latest strategy paper “Wool Strategy 2030”. The strategy includes a goal about wool grower confidence and tools to tackle flystrike without mulesing by 2030. An objective the signatory brands and many more would like to see supported by a tangible plan to assist wool growers moving towards plain-bodied sheep breeds.
